The Shaping of North America
Know: Appalachian Mountains, Tidewater Region, Rocky Mountains, Great Basin, Great Lakes, Missouri-Mississippi-Ohio River System 
 2.        Speculate how at least one geographic feature affected the development of the United States.

The Missouri-Mississippi-Ohio river system will probably become an asset in the way that it would be a faster way to travel as well as ship goods.

Peopling the Americas
Know: Land Bridge 
 3.        "Before the arrival of Europeans, the settlement of the Americas was insignificant."  Assess this statement.

This statement is incorrect because there were already millions of native American people living in the Americas.
  
The Earliest Americans
Know: Maize, Aztecs, Incas, Pueblo, Mound Builders, Three-sister Farming, Cherokee, Iroquois
 4.        Describe some of the common features North American Indian culture.

Three sister farming; corn, beans, and squash. They also spiritually respected the nature.

Indirect Discoverers of the New World
Know: Finland, Crusaders, Venice, Genoa
5.           What caused Europeans to begin exploring?

They started to explore because a new cheaper trade route to Asia was needed in order to supply goods such as spices and silk cheaply.

Europeans Enter Africa
Know: Marco Polo, Caravel, Bartholomeu Dias, Vasco da Gama, Ferdinand and Isabella, Moors
6.         What were the results of the Portuguese explorations of Africa?

Trading posts for gold and slaves were built, and African slaves started to be used in sugar plantations.

Columbus Comes upon a New World

 7.        What developments set the stage for “a cataclysmic shift in the course of history?”

The mariners compass, the renaissance helped bring back optimism and a sense of adventure. Also most importantly a less expensive trade route was needed to transport goods from Asia.

When Worlds Collide
Know: Corn, Potatoes, Sugar, Horses, Smallpox
 8.        Explain the positive and negative effects of the Atlantic Exchange (also known at the Columbian Exchange).

Europeans got tobacco, corn, beans, tomatoes, and potatoes they were also introduced to syphilis. Native Americans got horses and pigs they also got smallpox, yellow fever, and malaria which killed 90% of their population.

 9.        Were the conquistadors great men?  Explain.


Yes and no some conquistadores were viewed as great men because they discovered a lot of new land goods for their country. Where as others were morally wrong because they killed and took advantage of the natives in search of gold.

10.        Were the conquistadors' motives successfully fulfilled?  Explain.

Some were because they wanted royal titles, to spread Christianity, and become rich but most did not and went into debt.

The Conquest of Mexico
Know: Hernan Cortes, Tenochtitlan, Montezuma, Mestizos
11.            Why was Cortes able to defeat the powerful Aztecs?

            Cortez had eleven ships with hundreds of men as well as twenty thousand native allies.
